Product Description
a. "Life Unframed": After three years of design and development, the Sayl Chair by San Francisco designer Yves Behar is ready for the public. The two innovations that make this chair so state-of-the-art are the ArcSpan and the Y-Tower. ArcSpan shapes the back and anchors the suspension fabric, while the Y-tower is the backbone that stretches the fabric and provides support. Behar was inspired by the Golden Gate suspension bridge, in awe of the way structures such as this carry such emense loads. b. Eco-Dematerialization:Sayl uses fewer parts and less materials than other chairs of its kind allowing it to be packaged in half-sized cartons. It will also be built in three global zones, shrinking its carbon footprint even more.SAYL Chair by Herman Miller - Official Retailer - Basic - Black Review
We purchased this chair for our home office less than one month ago. We've (well, I've) not been able to stay out of it. We're both writers, and unfortunately spend hours upon hours on the computer. Our lifestyles thus make long-term comfort a must. On average, I've spent six to eight hours a day in it and have no complaints. Rolls easily, looks great, and I put it together in less than 30 seconds (just put the chair in the base!). Just a few words on two things reviewers on other sites have noted: 1) the arms on the basic SAYL model do not move. That has absolutely been a non-issue. My arms either rest on my desk, on the chair arms, or ideally, in perfect ergonomic form on the keyboard (which sadly happens least). 2) The cost. Initially we too thought it a bit pricey, but found that Herman Miller kept coming up in reviews as the make of comfortable and relatively eco-friendly chairs. And, once we compared chairs from elsewhere (staples, office max, general online search), we realized we wouldn't make out dropping less than $250 for a decent chair. So we took a chance, and I tell you the truth, it's been worth every penny.UPDATE:
Over a year later and still loving this chair! My husband now spends more time in it (I've graciously acquiesced my throne habitation), and he too loves it. Again, not many bells and whistles, but truly a great chair. I still average roughly 4-5 hours a day in it (dividing time between home and work office), with an occasional 8-hour day. Continues to be comfortable and everything works as if we'd just gotten it.
