Backpack vacuum cleaners are typically more portable than canister or upright vacuum cleaners and allow users greater freedom of motion. This vacuum cleaner delivers up to 110 cu. ft. per minute of air flow and up to 100 inches of water lift, which is a measure of suction (the higher the lift, the greater the suction). Four filtration stages help keep contaminants and dust particles contained within the vacuum cleaner. Security latches around the vacuum bag help prevent dust and allergens from escaping. The frame facilitates airflow and keeps the heat of the motor away from the wearer's body for comfort. The swivel-head nozzle can be used to vacuum areas that are hard to reach, such as around furniture. A 40-foot power cord enables the vacuum cleaner to cover a larger area without changing outlets than vacuums with shorter cords. A cord restraint helps prevent damage to the cord.

I wanted a vacuum for household use. I have mostly tile floors and wanted to be able to move furniture around and change attachments on-the-fly without lugging a vacuum around on the floor, and wanted to be able to do my whole place without stopping to change outlets. I looked for a while at all the options for backpack vacuum cleaners. Many are brands I'm not familiar with, and some of the name brands are very expensive. This Rubbermaid looked like the best option for the price ($212, September 2013).

It's definitely a sturdy unit. Nothing feels "cheap" about the vacuum or the attachments. The duster could be a bit bigger, but everything works well. If you have hard flooring, get the 9VBPFT06 Hard Floor Tool ($16).

The unit is reasonably quiet (quieter than my old vac) and is powerful and the cord is quite long.

Bag availability is another consideration. A few of the other vacs I looked at had very expensive replacement bags. The bags and filters for this vacuum are inexpensive and easy to find. Also easy to change.

The only caveats: You might find yourself bumping into doorways the first time you use it. Also, the harness straps were a bit of a challenge to get attached correctly (but they are well-made and are comfortable).

I really can't find any fault with this vacuum. (I'm a real person, and this is a real review!)
